General Information

Program Objectives

Following the conclusion of this program, the participants will be able to:

  1. Describe the classification and pathogenesis of the types of diabetes.
  2. Describe the criteria for diagnosing diabetes.
  3. Plan the appropriate medical management for the individual with diabetes.
  4. List three complications of diabetes; treatment and prevention.
  5. Identify nutritional goals and meal planning approaches.
  6. Explain the benefits and precautions of exercise in diabetes management.
  7. Identify teaching/learning methods that will enhance patient education.
Continuing Education

Grady Health System Department of Quality Management and Education is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the GA Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation. An Application Has Been Submitted To The Georgia Nurses Association Continuing Education Review Committee For Approval of 7.8 Contact Hours. Please Call Rita Panayioto at Grady Health System (404)616-3725 for more Information. Continuing Professional Education Units for registered dietitians has been applied for 6.5 hours from the American Dietetic Association. The Georgia State Board of Pharmacy application is for 7.8 CPE hours.

Public Health Nurses: Meets a training requirement for Nurse Protocol.
