The goals of the rotation
in Endocrinology and Metabolism for the house officer are threefold:
to learn the clinical characteristics and natural history of
the more important endocrine/metabolic disorders;
to develop an understanding of the underlying processes that
contribute to the pathophysiology of the different diseases;
and to gain an appreciation of how investigators study the
basic mechanisms of disease.

The Division includes
faculty with interests in all areas of clinical endocrinology. Rounds
are conducted daily, and trainees and faculty attend four clinics
weekly. At least two staff members are present at each clinic. The
clinical endocrine service includes outpatient offices in the
Emory Clinic, the Diabetes Unit at Grady Memorial Hospital, endocrine
clinics that meet a half day per week at Grady and the Veterans
Affairs Medical Center, and active inpatient consultation services
with frequent faculty rounds at all hospitals.
Division teaching conferences
attract participants from a number of basic and clinical disciplines.
Combined conferences include a weekly
Journal Club, a weekly interdepartmental conference with
members of the basic science departments, a weekly pathophysiology
conference led by the Core Endocrinology Faculty, and a monthly
pediatric endocrine conference. Clinical conferences are held
each week at individual hospitals.
