Seed Grant Program Overview:
The purpose of the Seed Grants is to facilitate the acquisition of extramural support for new and expanded basic and clinical research efforts of beginning faculty. Regular faculty with primary appointments at the level of Instructor or Assistant Professor who have limited external funding (no NIH R01 or P01 grants) are eligible to apply.
The maximum amount for each seed grant is $50,000 in direct costs, up to $25,000 of which may be used for the applicant’s salary and fringe benefits to enable more research time, with the remainder used for other non-faculty salaries, supplies or small equipment items. The duration of each grant is for one year, and any unused funds are returned to the Department of Medicine.
Seed grants are awarded after peer review. The peer review committee consists of at least 5 non-Department of Medicine Associate or Full Professors.
