Clinical Research Training
Pathogens of particular interest: M. tuberculosis, nosocomial pathogens such as vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus (VRE), methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and Candida species.
Currently Exploring: application and utility of molecular biology techniques in assisting epidemiologic studies such as tracing outbreaks and identifying the source and spread of bacterial pathogens at a local, national and international level.
Molecular techniques employed include restriction endonuclease analysis of chromosomal DNA, restriction fragment length polymorphisms (RFLP), pulsed-field gel electrophoresis, PCR-DNA amplification fingerprinting, and sequenced based typing.
Other interests: Efficiency and efficacy of control measures to prevent nosocomial transmission of M. tuberculosis, clinical research and epidemiologic tuberculosis related studies, TB education for physicians, medical students and other health care workers, and international collaboration on TB control.
Curriculum enhancement & didactic training of young physicians for careers in clinical investigation. |
