Angel Leon, Kathy Griendling, Wayne Alexander, and Andrew Smith are among ten DOM faculty initiated into Emory's MilliPub Club.

Congratulations to DOM faculty members: Dean Jones, MD; Larry Phillips, MD; Andrew Smith, MD; Angel Leon, MD; David DeLurgio, MD; Dan Sorescu, MD; TJ Murphy, MD; Kathy Griendling, PhD; David Harrison, MD; and Wayne Alexander, MD, PhD.

These researchers are part of an inaugural class of 20 in the MilliPub Club. “The Emory University MilliPub Club was formed in 2009 to recognize current Emory faculty who have published papers, from Emory, that have been cited at least 1,000 times in the literature. Such papers represent the equivalent of a pharmaceutical blockbuster and reflect the highest in scholarly achievement," says Ray Dingledine, MD, chair of the Department of Pharmocology. "Creation of the MilliPub Club is one of several steps we’re taking to shift the way we view our path to success – away from an exclusive reliance on research dollars to incorporate more direct measures of research achievement. The DOM, as expected from its history and size, dominated the inaugural membership, with half of the 20 MilliPub investigators.” [Editor's note: Dean Jones was in the Department of Biochemistry when his article was published, so he is not included the DOM count.]

SOM Dean Tom Lawley and Ray Dingledine, MD, presented the awards at a reception in September. The MilliPub Club is sponsored by the School of Medicine, but membership is open to any qualifying Emory faculty member.
