Sarcoidosis

  • Tissue Remodeling in Sarcoidosis – This study involves the collection of blood work and bronchoalveolar lung fluid from patients undergoing bronchoscopy for either diagnosis of their lung condition or exacerbation of their sarcoidosis symptoms. Samples are tested in the research laboratory for substances that may help investigators determine a cause and treatment for Sarcoidosis occurring in the lungs.

Lung Transplant

  • Lung Transplant Complications: Role of Matrix Deposition – This study involves the collection of bronchoalveolar lung fluid from patients who have undergone lung transplantation and require a bronchoscopy for management of their lung transplant. The fluid is tested in the research laboratory for substances that may help doctors learn why complications with lung transplant happen and help to develop better treatments in the future.

Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis

  • AVONEX/BIOGEN– This clinical trial involved a drug known as interferon-beta that was given to patients with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. The trial ended in November 2000.
  • Actimmune/Intermune - This is a clinical trial ongoing at present that involves the use of a drug known as interferon-gamma. This trial will end in June 2002. Enrollment in this trial is complete.
